HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – We’re not over Halloween yet but that hasn’t stopped locals from shopping for the holiday. The Merry Market Arts and Craft program was held at the Hastings City Auditorium. Small local businessmen came to sell goods. One vendor said the event had become a staple of the Hastings community.
“In fact, the town hall is where it is always held; if available,” said seller Shawna Crawford. “I just think this is a sign of the community. People pay attention to what’s going on here. There’s a sign outside that tells you what’s going on. So I think sometimes people look for this event in special”
Residents have been crossing other items off their lists. Crawford said most of her customers told her they were shopping for Christmas.
This year’s event did not have the number of attendees or vendors it had in recent memory. Crawford has been a vendor at the Merry Market Arts and Craft Show for 10 years and remembers when it was the talk of the town.
“When I started, there were people with tables outside on the sides, like up to the stage,” Crawford said. “This year it has decreased a bit. But yeah, it just changed. It depends on the year, as you say because it’s still early there may not be many people. ”
This event is usually held in November after Thanksgiving. Crawford said that may have contributed to the low volume and number of vendors.
